This morning I went to a traditional market, Mercado de Arroios in Lisbon to buy pork cheek (bochechas) and bread.
Our favorite bread, Trigo (3€) from Padaria Terra Pão. It’s just out of oven and rock hard outside but fluffy and a bit chewy inside. The best part is you can taste and smell wheat (trigo). We never can go back to a-mass-produced-bread…Second breakfast: Cabbage soup, Trigo bread & Açores butter @ 11:00 a.m.
Spontaneously bought skewered beef with bacon, chouriço and bell pepper (7€), which is a great deal. The funny part was Q & A about this product between the butcher and me that made me realized a huge cultural difference between Portugal and US.
I: “How long does it stay good?” B: “Oh, it stays good for a long time.” I: “Like two or three…(I was gonna say ‘weeks’)” B: “Sure, it will be good for two or three days!” I: “(oh wow, a few days means a long time for them…) How about a week?” B: “Mmmm, more or less…(It seems he doesn’t recommend)”
In the end, we had it on the same day of purchase 😛 Late lunch: Beef kebab, salmon & mushroom pasta, red wine @ 3:10 p.m. It was so good! I think it would be better if I cook less time (5 min in oven or just grilled on pan).
