He took us to Azenhas do Mar, where we enjoyed amazing views!
I mentioned I loved Portuguese wines, then he introduced us to this excellent wine cellar, which still grows one of the oldest grapes. Amazing!!!
He was going back to work around noon, but ended up enjoying lunch with us. I love it. Truly appreciated he spent more time with us. Since everything is under the red umbrella, food doesn’t look in the pictures but it’s all delicious. Especially I love the steak and sauce!
For anyone who wonders who he is…
Nuno Moura, a certified tour guide based in Sintra, Portugal, but he could give a tour in Lisbon and surrounding areas as well.
35 minute walk after breakfast. We went to see the salt evaporation pond, which is famous for Aveiro.
Visited the Cathedral of Aveiro and Museum of Aveiro in the morning too
Lunch after checking out hotel @ 12:00 p.m.
Leitão à Bairrada, grilled piglet from the region with potato chips & orange, Menu Almoço (lunch set) Including drink & cafe (10€), I chose red wine and it comes in a small pitcher of 250ml. I love it.Leitão sandwich with potato chips, as Menu Almoço (7€), he chose ‘Fino,’ 250ml of draft beer. Leitão was very juicy and good for both itself or sandwich 🙂
Dessert & cafe cheio, total 22.80€
Walking around town for a bit
Now we are at Aveiro station. Time to go back to Lisbon.
Breakfast buffet @ 7:30 a.m. Apparently we are only guests today.
Walking around the park for 30 minutes
Took a bus for 30 minutes to Costa Nova
Colorful and stripped houses are so pretty
After checking all the restaurants on the main street, we settled in one with the famous eel dish for a better price
Starting with Sapateira (crab) and drink. He had a draft beer and I had a half bottle of vinho verde. It’s very rare to see a dog not behaved well like this in Portugal.
This is what we wanted to try. “Caldeirada de Enguias,” a pot of eel stew. It looks intimidating but tastes very good. Eel is so fluffy and flavorful.
The dog was cute and curious. After dessert and cafe, total was 63.70€.
Back to hotel room, took a rest and walked a bit in town. In the evening we took an easy like drinking tea and watching TV in the hotel. We are so used to live without having dinner. Less opportunity to enjoy food. Kind of sad but feels healthier.
Arrived in Aveiro 12:10 p.m. First, we went to a restaurant on his list but had to wait for 2 hours without a reservation. So tried a restaurant my friend recommends. Steak and white wine were very good.
Next we had ice cream and famous sweet, Ovos Moles in Aveiro
After check in the hotel, we took a Gondola Tour, 45 minutes, 13 per person
Wandered in town, had more wine and ended up at Salt Pond.
We went to Setúbal by train because he had an appointment at SEF.
Train was supposed to leave Areeiro-Roma Station @ 7:43am but 7:49am. Then the train stopped on the half way and we had to take Uber to Stúbal 😦
While he was at SEF, I walked around the town, which is famous for Choco Fritto (Fried Cuttlefish).
I was hungry and had a croissant & meia de leite (latte) alone around 10:30am.
Portuguese love making everything sweet. This one got doce de ovos (egg cream) inside. So good 🙂
He finished the appt around 11:15am and we killed time till noon when all restaurants opened for lunch.
Salada 2.50€, Tomato tastes much better than in the US. Most salad got only olive oil and salt, but tastes amazing.
Picanha (Brazilian Beef) 12€, It was good but we feel it overpriced since our favorite place offer 8€ lunch course including a main course better than this.
Choco Fritto (a half portion) 8.50€, It was actually ok. I prefer smaller squid for cruncher texture and more flavor.
Total was 25€. I think we should stick to places the locals go even when it’s the first time to be there in town. It would be a bit intimidating but be absolutely better experience not only lower price but also we would know what real food is there.
The day finally has come. We are leaving for Portugal! Flights have been booked with AA miles and it’s nice our miles were enough to get first/business class at the same time we have only the option to stop twice in Chicago and Philadelphia.
@PDX
5 a.m. @ PDX. It was so quick to go through check in and security that we go 1.5 hours to kill till boarding. Had a cup of coffee. I loved Portland coffee.
Flight PDX to ORD
First time to take a first class on a domestic flight. Welcome OJ or water while waiting for taxing.
30 minutes after takeoff another drink was served. I got tea.
Then breakfast was served. I chose oatmeal. It was ok and I was so sleepy but excited.
This is his egg benedict.
Later on, another drink was served with a snack. I wanted nothing but got water.
Flagship Lounge @ORD
We are invited to AA Flagship Lounge. It was nice but kind of crowded.
There are wider selections of food, which was nice. It was around noon. I had lunch there.
Had a dessert and coffee too.
Flight ORD-PHL
This was served during the flight, but I skipped and take a nap.
Admirals Club Lounge @PHL
3 hours transit @ Admirals Club Lounge, PHL
I started feeling tired and sick. My mom’s rice ball gave me a bit energy.
Flight PHL-LIS
Welcome drink. I was not able to take a glass of Champagne because I felt so sick. Sad…
I couldn’t hold and order a glass of Chardonnay. I tried to drink as much as water. Sadly I couldn’t enjoy fully.
My Dinner: Salmon
I should’ve had a dessert instead of cheese…it makes me wanna drink more…
His Dinner: Chicken
I took Advil and tried to get as much sleep as possible to feel better.
