Caldo verde, empada de pato, Douro red @ 11:50 a.m.
Douro red is mostly blended with multiple grapes but this is only Touriga Nacional. Mmmm, I am not a fan of it because it’s more intense and less smooth.Tried with croissant & sardine paste but still didn’t like it much.Lunch: Linguini with meatball @ 2:30 p.m.Dessert
We went to visit a friend in Sintra, 40 minute away from Lisbon by train. Basically I wanted to make sure how he’s been doing during pandemic since he is a certified tour guide and obviously there have been a lot less tourists. First we caught up at a cafe that served excellent Apple Tart.
He took us to Azenhas do Mar, where we enjoyed amazing views!
I mentioned I loved Portuguese wines, then he introduced us to this excellent wine cellar, which still grows one of the oldest grapes. Amazing!!!
He was going back to work around noon, but ended up enjoying lunch with us. I love it. Truly appreciated he spent more time with us. Since everything is under the red umbrella, food doesn’t look in the pictures but it’s all delicious. Especially I love the steak and sauce!
For anyone who wonders who he is…
Nuno Moura, a certified tour guide based in Sintra, Portugal, but he could give a tour in Lisbon and surrounding areas as well.
Ponto Final @ 1:40 p.m., We invited a friend to have lunch together for her birthday. This restaurant has an amazing view of Lisbon from the other side of Tejo River. Obviously there is less regulation but more self-responsibility for the safety hazards 😛
We went to Belém to see Jerónimos Monastery before it gets really busy with tourists in summer
Sandwich lunch @ Pão Pão Queijo Queijo (it means “something black and white”), they serve “Subway style” sandwich and it’s pretty good. Of course we can’t miss the original Portuguese egg tarts, Pasteis de Belém.
Bread, cheese and vegetables produced by locals and fish & seafood caught by local fishermen. How precious and delicious everything was on the table. We opened 5 bottles, 2 whites and 3 reds. This is called, Happiness.
Later on we enjoyed sangria and spent on beach 5:40 – 8:00 p.m.
Breakfast @ 7:40 a.m.Soup @ 10:45 a.m. After this, I went to a mercado and wine shop.I bought a really nice wine as a gift for friends. It costs 22€ and gets 4.3 stars on vivino. Lunch: Pork cheek curry & rice with asparagus @ 2:30 p.m.
I started a project with a friend/photographer to interview and photograph locals in Portugal. Today we are visiting two friends to help us to move the project forward. Also, they will be the first interviewees for us. Took a train from Rossio Station, which is like a museum.
They made us lunch. I was not expecting to make good friends like them during pandemic. I am so lucky or maybe it wouldn’t be difficult to make a friend if you open up yourself like we all do when children. By the way he uses sake cup, I brought as a gift from Japan as espresso cup. That works well.On the train back to Lisbon, I felt so sick…We took a break at the legendary café Nicola. A little bird visited our table.
In the morning I washed bed sheets and went to the laundromat to use a dryer. While waiting I enjoy watching this dog in front of the shop next door. So cute!Lunch: Ginger pork, asparagus, rice @ 12:50 p.m.Porto wine (white) & chocolate @ 4:30 p.m.
