Lunch @ Restaurant after 3 month Lockdown

Lunch: Curried chicken (for him), Veal steak (for me), draft beer, pudding, cafe @ 12:40 p.m., It was the first dine out after 3 month lockdown since January 15.

Try a Canned Fish Roe

Tried a canned fish roe (ovas de pescada). It’s not bad.

Lunch alone @ 12:40 p.m., Peperoncino with broccolini & mini tomatoes. I experimented to add fish roe. Since it’s not salty enough, I added butter and soy sauce too. Not bad…kinda good 🙂

My experimental continues…with cream cheese on bread. Then truffle and wine.

Museu Bordalo Pinheiro

We went to Bordalo Pinheiro Museum this morning.

Bordalo Pinheiro is a Portuguese artist known for his illustration and ceramic work. It’s a small museum but we really enjoyed it.

Snack time @ 11:50 a.m.

Lunch: Arroz de pato (duck rice) @ 1:00 p.m.

Sake & Soba @ Friends’ House

Invited to friends’ house: Starting with Sake, they brought from Japan. We love sake. Yay!

Japanese delicacies such as eel bone chips, nori, dried squid etc along with sake. Then we had soba, sangria, ham, cheese, Portuguese white wine, queijada, fruits, baked banana etc. It was a blast!

Opening a box of truffles from Chocolataria Equador @ 11:00 a.m., So good 🙂

Gas Inspection for the pipes

Breakfast @ 8:20 a.m., Actually I couldn’t sleep last night and had this apple pie (2pcs) around 11:00 p.m. too.

The inspector and the landlord came this morning to operate a lot of tests to find what causes water leak down and upstair units of us. He injected colored water then gas to pipes but still couldn’t find the spot. “Está estranho.”

Iberico Presunto & wine @ 2:00 p.m., the inspector came at 10:00 and finally left around 1:30 p.m.

Lunch: Salmon, spinach, rice, wine @ 2:40 p.m.

Dessert: Doce da casa

Another Esplanada Meeting

The friend, I met yesterday invited me to another meet-up with a new friend, she had known through SNS. I usually would say, “No thank you” but went to meet them since it was a great opportunity in many ways. I had never tried a restaurant/cafe in the Comercio Square because it’s a tourist spot. It was actually nice to see Tejo River from the spacious terrace (esplanada) with few people. At the same time it’s sad to see everywhere sort of empty…Spent 2 hours here.

I stopped by a favorite chocolataria and a Asian market, then walked home.

Breakfast: Easy apple pie, coffee @ 7:30 a.m. I repeatedly make this recipe, so easy and so good.

Leftover pasta (so hungry couldn’t wait for lunch) @ 11:45 a.m., Lunch: Take out (chicken stroganoff for him, roasted pork for me + soup, wine, got stuffed and no room for dessert) @ 12:40 p.m.

Tomar Cafe na Esplanada

Meeting a new friend for the first time at cafe in a park. It’s not typical me but I have made several friends through online during the pandemic. I hit it off with some of them by regularly having “Zoom” meetings. We spent 2.5 hours in the terrace and I had strawberry lemonade, latte & cheesecake :p

We went to the supermarket at El Corte Ingles. She showed me all the good stuff. There was a wine specialist, Jorge who answers customer’s questions and suggests which wine would be good for them. I bought one bottle, I was looking for and another, he recommends. I really wanted to try empanadas (empadas in Portuguese) in the last photo, but my husband and I don’t eat in the evening, so I will wait for the next time.

Breakfast: Bolo de chocolate, orange, coffee @ 7:40 a.m., Pizza bread with wine @ 10:50 a.m., Anchovy & garlic pasta @ 11:35 a.m.

It was not a good idea to open a bottle before a 30 minute walk to the park, but I couldn’t resist. This is an organic wine and it’s fairly good but not a wow factor.

Meeting up with Friends in Belém

Since yesterday restaurants could open to offer food and drinks at outside terrace (esplanadas) . Museums and monuments are now open as well. We met up with friends in Belem area. It was very nice to catch up with them and enjoy the breeze and sun.

Best & original pastéis de nata (Portuguese egg tart)! It’s called ‘Pastéis de Belém.’
