Grocery Shopping @ Go Natural

I went to an organic/natural supermarket, Go Natural.

It was fun to explorer a new supermarket.

These are what I bought.

Breakfast: pastel de nata + coffee @ 7:30 a.m.

Lunch: Carbonara, salad, olives + red wine @ 1:30 p.m.

This chocolate is so good…

Lunch @ Pirata

We went to one of our regular places, Pirata for lunch. We love this snack-bar serving everything we need such as delicious food & drinks, friendly communication and good price.

Hand writing daily specials (Prato do dia) are usually a good sign for local traditional freshly cooked Portuguese food.

He goes with a draft (imperial in Portuguese) and I took a glass of “sparkling wine” (vinho a pressão)

My lunch: Bacalhau com natas, a popular salted cod dish

His: Espetadas de frango, skewered grilled chicken with bacon, sausage, pineapple

Dessert (sobremesa): Rice budding (arroz doce), Portuguese egg tart (pastel de nata)

Coffee to closed the meal (café cheio). In Portugal, they don’t usually have coffee with dessert but after. Our lunch was 20€ including 2€ tip, which is not mandatory here.

2nd breakfast: Caldo verde @ 8:00 a.m. I probably had a pastry and coffee before this.

Snack: Mini kitkat & coffee @ 9:00 a.m.

Taking easy afterwards. Had a little bit of chicken rice for dinner.

We went for a free trial yoga 7:00-8:30.

It was so tough after 3 year not practicing yoga regularly.

My Carbonara In Portugal

I started a two week language course today. It’s supposed to be a class for 2-10 but it became private because no one else signed up, which is nice since I am a very beginner to Portuguese.

1.5 hour private lesson instead of 3 hour in group actually works better for me since the class ends at noon. Lunch time is very important!!!

Lunch @ 1pm at home, Salad & leftover pasta

We went to bank and post office after lunch and bought a snack at a street vender.

Castanhas (roasted chestnuts) are a natural healthy snack for fall/winter season in Lisbon.  É delicioso!!!

I finally found the wine glasses I had wanted since we saw at neighborhood restaurants. Also, the store has a lot of good stuff and the lady is so charming. I will definitely go back.

Dinner @ 5:30pm, my carbonara turned almost perfect although I didn’t have all pots and tools I usually use in the US.

Portuguese Tapas Night At Home

IMG_2447
We were taking easy and enjoying wine and tapas this evening. Starting @ 5:30pm. Queijo Fresco and Presunto (fresh cheese and prosciutto)

Fresh cheese tastes mild and smooth like dessert. Not sweet but texture is like pudding. 5 or 6 pieces of prosciutto was 1€.

I was going to try a really cheap Portuguese wine between 1-2€, but I was not brave enough and chose one 5€ from Douro. Very smooth and easy to drink.

IMG_2448
Sauteed Chouriço with garlic, onion and bell pepper. He loved this dish.

IMG_2449
We tried Sardine Pate, a friend recommends

IMG_2451
Very fishy but I love it. He doesn’t.

My Dish Inspired by Arroz de Pato

IMG_2340
First breakfast @ 5:50am

IMG_2341.jpg
Second breakfast @ 8:50am, Internet was down since last night and waiting for Vodafone again.

IMG_2343
Lunch @ 12:50pm, almost same thing with breakfast

IMG_2347.jpg
Snacking @ 3:30pm: Broa Castelar

I tried to cook something like Arroz de Pato (Duck rice), which tasted amazing at Casçada 28.

I used baked chicken instead of duck and add onion, garlic, bell pepper, olives, chorizo, tomato paste and bouillon.

IMG_2348
It was not bad, but more chorizo and chicken would be better.
