Take out lunch: Lasanha & beer @ 1:40 p.m. He said, “Happy anniversary!!!” Oh yeah, it’s 14th anniversary. I almost forgot but the trip to Aveiro was for that.

Leitão à Bairrada @ Tasquinha do Leitão – Last Day in Aveiro

Hotel breakfast @ 7:30 a.m.

35 minute walk after breakfast. We went to see the salt evaporation pond, which is famous for Aveiro.

Visited the Cathedral of Aveiro and Museum of Aveiro in the morning too

Lunch after checking out hotel @ 12:00 p.m.

Leitão à Bairrada, grilled piglet from the region with potato chips & orange, Menu Almoço (lunch set) Including drink & cafe (10€), I chose red wine and it comes in a small pitcher of 250ml. I love it.

Leitão sandwich with potato chips, as Menu Almoço (7€), he chose ‘Fino,’ 250ml of draft beer. Leitão was very juicy and good for both itself or sandwich 🙂

Dessert & cafe cheio, total 22.80€

Walking around town for a bit

Now we are at Aveiro station. Time to go back to Lisbon.

Seafood Lunch in Costa Nova – Day 2 in Aveiro

Breakfast buffet @ 7:30 a.m. Apparently we are only guests today.

Walking around the park for 30 minutes

Took a bus for 30 minutes to Costa Nova

Colorful and stripped houses are so pretty

After checking all the restaurants on the main street, we settled in one with the famous eel dish for a better price

Starting with Sapateira (crab) and drink. He had a draft beer and I had a half bottle of vinho verde.

It’s very rare to see a dog not behaved well like this in Portugal.

This is what we wanted to try. “Caldeirada de Enguias,” a pot of eel stew. It looks intimidating but tastes very good. Eel is so fluffy and flavorful.

The dog was cute and curious. After dessert and cafe, total was 63.70€.

Back to hotel room, took a rest and walked a bit in town. In the evening we took an easy like drinking tea and watching TV in the hotel. We are so used to live without having dinner. Less opportunity to enjoy food. Kind of sad but feels healthier.

Ovos Moles & Gondola Tour – Day 1 in Aveiro

Arrived in Aveiro 12:10 p.m. First, we went to a restaurant on his list but had to wait for 2 hours without a reservation. So tried a restaurant my friend recommends. Steak and white wine were very good.

Next we had ice cream and famous sweet, Ovos Moles in Aveiro

After check in the hotel, we took a Gondola Tour, 45 minutes, 13 per person

Wandered in town, had more wine and ended up at Salt Pond.

Celebrating for a Week Off @ Pirata

Breakfast @ 8:00 a.m., Grocery shopping @ 11:00 a.m. This dog has been seen at several spots in Lisbon.

Lunch: Rib curry @ 12:45 p.m.

Meet up with school mates for coffee @ 2:00 p.m.

Today was the last working day for him before a week off. So we went to Pirata to celebrate and relax @ 4:30 p.m. When paying the bill at the counter, we found a nice dessert to take out.

Yuzu Ratan Ramen @ Afuri

Lunch with two girlfriends: Menu Executivo, drink, main, cafe 12€, I pick a glass of white wine to start.

Two orders of 8 pcs gyoza (8€ each), Very authentic. Very meaty.

Top to left: Yuzu Shio, Yuzu Ratan, Tonkotsu Tantan

I had Yuzu Ratan, spicy shoyu broth with yuzu flavor. It’s quite spicy for me but good 🙂

We order a bottle of Gradil Alvarinho (20€). I love it!!!

Dessert & Tea @ A Brasileira, This place was opened in 1905 and started selling a cup of cafe espresso. In Lisbon, cafe is called BICA standing for “Beba Isto Com Açúcar = Drink this with sugar.” We had the original BICA too.

We moved to a rooftop cafe to continue chatting…

First Lunch @ Pirata after Lockdown

Today we went for lunch at Pirata, one of our favorites. On the way, a shop, which had been closed for the lockdown, was finally open and its dog there too.

Today’s menu. Start with ‘Vinho à pressão’ @ 12:15 p.m.

Mine: carne de porco à alentejana (6.50€)

His: picanha do Uruguay grelhada (7.50€), We learn something new. “Bem ou mal passada? (Well done or rare?)” Probably “Médio a médio mal” is good for us.

Vegetarian Lunch @ Oásis

I got together with a friend for the first time after 3-month “lockdown” at a vegetarian restaurant. We shared a half bottle of white wine (6.50€). By the way, two ducks were wandering on the sidewalk. They probably reside in the park across the street.

Prato do Dia (today’s special): Tofu com legumes e cogumelos, Rolo belga, Seitan em molho de cenoura, Lasanha de beterraba. We both ordered Prato Misto with 2 choices of main (8.25€). I had rolo & seitan, she had tofu & lasanha. All of them were so tasty.

Sides were farro, salad and cole slaw. Food was good and service was nice. I would definitely come back soon!

On the way to next place, we found a cool bookstore/art gallery.

I have been curious about this store and finally took a look inside today. They have products from all over world by a fair trade and the store attendant/owner (?) was very nice.

Coffee time at this amazing place, you never know what’s inside from out side. After an hour we have to leave because they close at 4:00 p.m.

We kept talking in the park for 2.5 hours. Time flies when having fun.

Stopped by a favorite grocery store, where all the products are made in Portugal 🇵🇹

Meeting a New Friend @ Fauna & Flora

Meeting a new friend, who was introduced by a good friend of ours here. Today I feel so much joy of dining out and getting to know new people. This is something I missed during the lockdown.

Lunch: Thaio, chicken curry 11€ (his), Thunnus, seared tuna & quinoa 12€ (mine)

I really liked mine. This is something that reminds me of California. Red lemonade no sugar added is good as well. I think lemonade in Portugal is just lemon juice and water basically.
