Pão Pão Queijo Queijo (Bread Bread Cheese Cheese)

We went to Belém to see Jerónimos Monastery before it gets really busy with tourists in summer

Sandwich lunch @ Pão Pão Queijo Queijo (it means “something black and white”), they serve “Subway style” sandwich and it’s pretty good. Of course we can’t miss the original Portuguese egg tarts, Pasteis de Belém.

Thai Lunch

Breakfast @ 7:00 a.m., Duck rice @ 8:30 a.m., I was not feeling this morning and had to cancel an online call with a friend…

Around noon I felt better and craved for Thai food. We could order UberEats, but I went out to pick up instead because lunch set is available only for a pickup and cost would be twice for the delivery. My favorite Thai place is on the hill. Today, the escalator was working for the first time for me!

Lunch: Pad Thai + egg rolls & Ginger Chicken + dumplings (7.90€ x 2) @ 1:15 p.m.
This dark chocolate is so good with passion fruit sauce inside.

Hospital & LX Factory

I received a message from a friend last night but read it this morning. It says his wife has been sick and needs my help to communicate with doctors and nurses in the hospital. So I took taxi there. I had a nice conversation with the taxi driver in Portuguese and told him that I loved taxi ride in Portugal. Drivers are professional and price is very clear. We checked in for an emergency service and spent more than 3 hours, getting consultation, blood & urine tests, IV and doctor’s follow up with the test. It was basically a pleasant experience.

She felt much better after the doctor confirmed all tests resulted normal. So we went to LX Factory for lunch! I found there were no more the bar with a famous sculpture and Drag Taste there. Sad…:(

I am talking about this and this…These were the symbols of LX Factory…Pandemic has affected so many places…

I had pork cheek & risotto with a glass of red wine. Delicious 🙂

After lunch I was invited to their house. They got me the best toy to play…So cute!

They treated me with a nice dessert & coffee too 🙂

Organic Market and Lunch with a Friend

I went out to ride 24E of tram (Elétrico) after breakfast and a Portuguese wine webinar in the morning.

This line runs through a neighborhood where a friend lives, so we met up at the organic market nearby. I bought strawberries, bread, tomato and arugula.

I brought her back home and had lunch together.

Main course was Spaghetti Carbonara with this Portuguese “Guanciale” but I forgot to take a picture. Comparing to Guanciale that I usually buy from an Italian Deli, this is much saltier. Unfortunately I prefer the Italian one.

Gelato and coffee @ 4:00 p.m., Nice weather but a bit cool in the shade.

Visiting Honey Producer at a Market

Leftover lasanha & vinho verde @ 12:10 p.m., We cleaned up the apartment in the afternoon after the contractor left. This morning I did a laundry twice.

Lunch: Napolitan with “shishito (pimento padrão)”

In the afternoon I visited a honey producer/vender at a market. I met the senhor last December at other market. He asked where I was from because his son studied Japanese. Then Bingo! I am Japanese. I offered a language exchange opportunity but his son was too shy to take it. He felt bad for me and offered an opportunity to practice my Portuguese with him instead. Such a nice guy…Today we talked a little more about ourselves in Portuguese and English too. He speaks English very well. Then an elderly assisted by a young policeman passed by in front of his stand. He was so happy to see it and take a moment in a photo. I bought a jar of lavender honey and honey vinegar. Also, cheese and “guanciale” at other vender.

Ovos Moles & Gondola Tour – Day 1 in Aveiro

Arrived in Aveiro 12:10 p.m. First, we went to a restaurant on his list but had to wait for 2 hours without a reservation. So tried a restaurant my friend recommends. Steak and white wine were very good.

Next we had ice cream and famous sweet, Ovos Moles in Aveiro

After check in the hotel, we took a Gondola Tour, 45 minutes, 13 per person

Wandered in town, had more wine and ended up at Salt Pond.

Peruvian Empanada from Las Cholas

This morning I went to El Corte Inglés Supermercado.

There are so many good stuffs. I bought two bottles of wine, sushi rice, snack and salmon roe today. Next time I would like to try Guanciale and smoked salmon.

In front of the supermarket, there is a little stand for Peruvian Empanadas. I decided to try 4 kinds and Alfajor.

I was waiting for a bus but even a single bus didn’t come through. After 20 minute-wait, I switched to Metro.

Empanada time @ 11:40 a.m.

Left top to right: Spinach & cheese, tuna & tomato, eggplant & quinoa, duck & orange

I like duck and quinoa best.

Tried salmon roe too.

Lunch @ 2:40 p.m., Salmon roe itself doesn’t take like Japanese one because it’s much smaller and slightly sour. However, it becomes totally Japanese once adding wasabi and nori 🙂

I love Alfajor! So soft and perfectly sweet.

Yuzu Ratan Ramen @ Afuri

Lunch with two girlfriends: Menu Executivo, drink, main, cafe 12€, I pick a glass of white wine to start.

Two orders of 8 pcs gyoza (8€ each), Very authentic. Very meaty.

Top to left: Yuzu Shio, Yuzu Ratan, Tonkotsu Tantan

I had Yuzu Ratan, spicy shoyu broth with yuzu flavor. It’s quite spicy for me but good 🙂

We order a bottle of Gradil Alvarinho (20€). I love it!!!

Dessert & Tea @ A Brasileira, This place was opened in 1905 and started selling a cup of cafe espresso. In Lisbon, cafe is called BICA standing for “Beba Isto Com Açúcar = Drink this with sugar.” We had the original BICA too.

We moved to a rooftop cafe to continue chatting…
