My Birthday Lunch @ Calçada 28

I had been thinking where to go for my birthday lunch last couple weeks since he asked me. There are so many places I want to try in Lisbon, especially city center, but it seems so overpriced since we found the great deals of lunch special in our neighborhood (more local/residential area). So I concluded that we should go to one of our favorites around here because we are moving to a new apartment next week and it would be less to come around here.

We checked the daily special at the closest restaurant on the middle of hill. If anything had looked good, we would have gone to the other one, but I saw a dish I wanted.

IMG_1570.jpg
We started with Red wine with bread and olives as usual. So many gentlemen were enjoying their lunch and wine too.

IMG_1572
This is my choice, Arroz de Pato.

IMG_1573.jpg
His: Espetadas Acheira

IMG_1575
My duck rice tastes amazing! It reminds me of grandma’s takikomi-gohan, a Japanese mixed rice.

We thought too much food to finish, but we took our time and did! It was so delicious 🙂

IMG_1577
Couldn’t finish 0.5L wine tho…

IMG_1578
My dessert: Mousse de Manga, his: Doce da Casa

IMG_1581
I ordered ‘cafe normal (regular espresso)’. It was stronger but still manageable and good.

Another great lunch experience for 8 euros per person. We still can’t believe how wonderful this deal is!!!

We walked to Saldanha area to pick up an insurance card at the agency.

Checking Mercado de 31 Janeiro

IMG_1592
There was a nice pastry shop in the market.

IMG_1595
Also a special shop for spices, dry fruits and teas. I would come back here to get some teas.

IMG_1597
After a quick stop by the agency, we went to a mall to look for a pair of shoes for him in Saldanha.

IMG_1600
We decided to walk 10 minutes to another mall. On the way, there was a menu board for great deal of snacking and drinks.

IMG_1601
Our favorite mall, El Corte Inglés

IMG_1608
Then we found cute shoes! I love them.

El Corte Inglés & Roasted Chestnuts

Our realtor introduced us to El Corte Ingles, a department store and a museum nearby. On Sunday after 2pm, the museum admission is free, so we went to explore around there.

We chose Cafetaria among various other restaurants.

IMG_0943
It seems upscaled but still reasonable.

IMG_0945
Super Bock Original (beer 1.65 euro) for him, a glass of white wine (3.40 euro) for me

IMG_0950
Salmon Salad (9.60 euro) for me

IMG_0951.jpg
He ordered Lasagna ($7.90) but got a wrong stuff, probably Bacalhau Gratin. Since it tastes good, he kept eating…

IMG_0952
My salad was very refreshing and perfect with the crisp white wine.

IMG_0953
Total cost. I paid with my US credit card. It worked.

IMG_0942
This pastelaria looks amazing!

IMG_0954
I will be back for these next time.

IMG_0956
Pasteis de Nata are smaller and more expensive here. I want to try every nata and find my true favorite!

IMG_0989
Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, It’s free after 2pm on Sundays, but you still need to get a ticket to go in.
